Poultry judging team excels at national event
The University of North Georgia’s (³ÉÈËBÕ¾) poultry judging team excelled in the USPOULTRY Foundation Ted Cameron National Poultry Judging Contest held April 1-3 at Louisiana State University. ³ÉÈËBÕ¾'s group of students tied for sixth place in market products, eighth in production and ninth in breeds. Jackson Barkley placed 10th individually in breed selection, 14th individually in market products, and was 19th overall in the contest.
"I'm extremely proud of the hard work our students put into participating in this contest," Dr. Linda Purvis, assistant professor of biology and poultry science, said. "The fact that we are consistently competing with top-rated universities shows how competitive and educated our ³ÉÈËBÕ¾ students are. We have a lot to be proud of as our students did an amazing job and represented our school very well."
The competition allows students the opportunity to demonstrate how well they have mastered the U.S. Department of Agriculture rules and regulations governing the grading of eggs and poultry carcasses.
Student researches impact of menstrual cycle phases
³ÉÈËBÕ¾ student Brooke Karmilovich, along with Dr. Balea Schumacher, is researching the impact of menstrual cycle phases on physical abilities.
³ÉÈËBÕ¾ conducts Respite Care Study for state
³ÉÈËBÕ¾'s Institute for Healthy Aging partnered with the Georgia Department of Human Services' Division of Aging Services to conduct the Georgia Respite Care Study in fiscal years 2025 and 2026.
³ÉÈËBÕ¾ offers grad student scholarships
³ÉÈËBÕ¾ will introduce its first substantial university-wide investment in graduate student scholarships for the 2026–27 academic year.
Event gives leaders taste of Corps life
High school students have a chance to get a big-picture view of ³ÉÈËBÕ¾'s Corps of Cadets and learn from current cadets at National Leadership Challenge from March 27-29.
